ROI
Return on investment (ROI) shows how much profit a campaign made relative to its cost.
Unlike ROAS, ROI uses the contribution margin, which is revenue after cost of goods and shipping. A positive ROI means the campaign brought in more than it cost. For campaigns without direct sales, ROI can often only be estimated through assumptions such as earned media value.
Calculation
Example: A campaign costs €5,000 and brings in €15,000 of revenue at a 40% margin. The contribution margin is €6,000, so the ROI is (€6,000 − €5,000) ÷ €5,000 = 20%.
