Calculate the ROI and ROAS of your influencer campaign

A ROAS of 3 sounds like success but can still lose money. Only your margin shows whether a campaign made a profit.

After costs, €2,000 of profit remains. At this margin, the campaign breaks even from a ROAS of 2.5.

Measure ROAS per creator

How to calculate ROAS and ROI

ROAS (return on ad spend) divides the attributed revenue by the campaign cost:

ROAS=RevenueCost

ROI uses the contribution margin instead of revenue, i.e. what is left after cost of goods and shipping:

ROI=(Contribution margin−Cost)Cost×100

Why a good ROAS does not mean profit

A campaign costs €10,000 and brings in €30,000 in revenue, a ROAS of 3. At a 40% margin, €12,000 remain and the ROI is 20%.

At a 25% margin, only €7,500 remain from the same revenue. The same ROAS of 3 then becomes an ROI of −25%. Whether a ROAS is good always depends on your margin.

How ROI, ROAS and earned media value fit together is explained in our article ROI und Earned Media Value (in German).
